JAMES PETER COST (LISTED CALIFORNIA ARTIST 1923-2002 - SELLS FOR $$$$$$$$$ PRICES IN GALLERIES). WARNING NO HUNTING, 1981, ORIGINAL TRANSPARENT WATERCOLOR FROM HIS DREAM OF GOLD SERIES, 22" x 29-1/2" watercolor (framed size: 31" x 39") signed lower left. Frame nicks. On the back of the framed side is the information about the piece and that it was painted for: Mr. and Mrs. Roland Archie Duquette. See photo 4. This biography from the Archives of AskART: James Peter Cost was born in 1923 and died in 2002. Cost was a California Plein Aire painter, holding the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts from UCLA and Master of Arts from USC. Cost was a teacher of Fine Art from 1955-1964. He was also co-owner with his wife, BettyJo Cost, of the James Peter Cost Gallery in Carmel from 1964-1989. Cost was the recipient of $5,000 and the Gold Medal from Franklin Mint in 1975 for the First Award out of 500 entries for the most outstanding American Seascape Artist. Two of his paintings made it to the front cover of Reader's Digest in the 60s and 70s and many of his images were printed on the covers of California magazines. He received numerous other awards in all media. Cost's first wife was Harriet Bowker (1947-1955), with whom he had a daughter, Janet Perry Cost, and a son, Curtis Wilson Cost.
