This is something special: a katana by the well known Gendai smith, Kanemune. The length of the cutting edge is 26 ¾” (68 cm) and the blade is 1 ¼” (3.2 cm) wide at the notches. The signature reads, "Noshu Seki no Ju Fukumoto Kanemune." You are buying the blade in mounts with the officer’s tassel.Fukumoto Kanemune worked at the Seki Nihon To Tan Ren jo during WWII. He was the son of Fukumoto Amahide, the President and lead smith at the forge. You will find oshigata of his work in Swordsmiths of Japan: 1926 – 1945 by Fuller & Gregory and in An Oshigata Book of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths: 1868 – 1945 by John Slough. If you google Fukumoto Kanemune you will find tons of information about the smith. The leather scabbard cover shows lots of wear and the scabbard has a split at the top. The handle wrap is intact but with one spot of abrasion. The blade has surface staining, scratches, and a few very tiny nicks in the edge (I’ve pictures the largest) but there are no serious defects on the blade: no cracks, openings, blisters, pitting, or anything. It will take a polish well. The temperline is bright and clear and complete from the notch to the tip. Everything fits well together; the blade doesn't rattle inside the handle or scabbard.Winning bidder in the US will pay $20 for USPS priority mail with insurance; a winner elsewhere will pay read more
