These are a pair of Japanese Takasago ceramic statues. Takasago is the name of a famous Noh play in Japan, and tells of the story of two lovers whose spirits resided among the pine trees so that when the moon was full they could reunite as an old couple along the shore. In Japan the Takasago characters have become symbolic of longevity as well as marital harmony. These statues have a crane and turtle painted among them, and these animals are also simbolic of longevity in Japan. These statue are hand painted and signed. There are some signs such as scratches and some paint peeling. Item age: 1900~1940s. Item is sold AS IS. Pls see the photos carefully to determine the item condition and quality for yourself.
