There are some small lacquer-peeled spots on the bowls (Please refer to the last 2 pictures to check them.) Age the middle of 19C Size Dia. max. 5.1"(13.0 cm) x H 3.3"(8.4 cm) Description of item This is a pair of antique lacquered wooden covered bowls. High quality Japanese lacquer is coated on the Natural wooden-based bowls. These were made about the middle of 19 century. The Beutiful Gold Makie picture is painted on them. These bowls are very refined Japanese traditional handcraft! To create different colours and textures, maki-e artists use a variety of metal powders including gold, silver, copper, brass, lead, aluminum, platinum, pewter, as well as their alloys. Bamboo tubes and soft brushes of various sizes are used for laying powders and drawing fine lines. As it requires highly-skilled craftsmanship to produce a maki-e painting, young artists usually go through many years of training to develop the skills and to ultimately become maki-e masters.
