John Kelly Fitzpatrick (American/Alabama, 1888 -1953) impressionist oil on canvas landscape depicting a lone figure beneath an arbor, with a body of water in the background, possibly Lake Jordan. Signed lower right margin KELLY FITZPATRICK. Housed in a molded and painted wood frame with linen liner. Sight: 19 1/2" H x 22" W. Framed: 27 3/8" H x 29 7/8" W x 1 7/8" D. Biography (courtesy Askart: The Artists' Bluebook): Alabama-born John Kelly Fitzpatrick studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before enlisting in the Army in 1918. He was wounded and severely scarred during the war and returned to painting, attending the Academie Julian in Paris. Once back in the South, he made numerous contributions to the arts in Alabama. He was the first director of the Montgomery Museum of Art School and taught at the Dixie Art Colony at Lake Jordan.
