This is an old Kiowa Indian doll made by a Kiowa Indian woman in the likeness of the women she has known. This doll wears the traditional clothing of the older Kiowa woman - a fabric dress with pretty beaded trim. The high-top moccasins are awesome - great leather and beads. The fabric on the front of her dress is very faded, and you can see the brighter colors on the back. Her clever facial features are made through stitchery on her fabric face. Her black yarn hair is in braids and encircled by a beaded headband. I don't often see Kiowa dolls and this one is very nicely made. She is soiled and old - looks like she was made for a child and played with. If you collect American Indian dolls she would be a nice one for a collection. This doll stands 12" tall.
