C2 Information: This wonderful hand-colored folio engraving is from Georg Wolfgang Knorr’s work Deliciae Natureae Selectae, of Uitgelezen Kabinet van Natuurlyke Zeldzaamheden… The work was published in 1771. Knorr was a German painter, engraver, art dealer, paleontologist, and noted as the father of the science of geology. Knorr was commissioned by the wealthy Nuremburg physician Christoph Jacob Trew along with J. F. Dietsch, J. C. Keller, C. N. Kleeman, C. Leinberger, A. Hoffer, J. A. Eissenmann, & J. F. Schmidt. All of these artists and scientists contributed to the drawing, engraving, and hand-coloring of the plates for Deliciae Natureae Selectae . Many of the subjects for the work originated from Trew’s personal natural history collection. Guarantee: This print is an original antique print and not a modern reproduction.
