Hello! The beauty of this Korean celadon vase, with serene flying cranes, originates from its traditional root, an ancient an art form dating back 1,500 years. This jar, larger than most, is an elegant example of the graceful art of Korean Celadon, defined by the sought after gray-green or gray blue color shine. The distinctive and delicate latticework of fine cracks is visible under the glaze, a technique that characterizes a piece as Celadon. This artist has inlaid this jar with cranes in graceful flight among clouds, with an added and sought after adornment (blends of bamboo patterns). The crane design on this vase is hand carved and inlaid with the different color clays, which require many hours of labor to complete. The vase/jar is then fired with the traditional celadon crackle glaze. The beauty of this piece is difficult to appreciate, just from the pictures. You must look closely at the delicate fine pattern of crazing under the glaze and the longer you look at the vase, the more beautiful it appears. This celadon piece has the artist's mark on the bottom, written in black characters, the red mark is a personal stamp used by some artisans, the equivalent of a signature.
