Vintage L.E. SMITH AMBERINA MOON AND STARS FOOTED COMPOTE w/LID More pieces from my grandmother's attic . . . Up for auction is a LARGE footed compote / comport by L.E. Smith. This lovely compote comes wtih it's original lid, something hard to find. This is probably the most desired color -- amberina. It's reddish/orange-ish/yellow-ish. The colors fade into one another . . . from a brilliant ruby red, to the red/orange to the yellow. This is NOT painted on the glass, but rather the color of the glass that was used to make this. The details are so wonderful -- take a look at the top of the lid, it appears to look like a crown. The pedastal base features a square knob on the stem, each face of the knob features a "star" pattern. This is a tall piece -- about 12" tall to the top of the lid. The dish measure 9.5" tall (without the lid) and is about 8" wide. You can see a few air bubble in the glass of the lid, so wonderful a detail of these pieces made by real artisans! This dish is HUGE and weighs over 8 pounds . . . with packing materials and a good strong box, it will weigh close to 10 pounds.
