MOORCROFT MACINTYREAURELIAN VASE This early example ofMoorcroft’s work, a rare large(12”) Grecian vase showing a blue red and gold ‘poppy’ design known as the Aurelian pattern, is in stunning condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. As can be seen in the photos, the base is marked with the Macintyre Burslem England mark , and two other marks which I believe to be a registered pattern number (314901?) and possibly either a corrected edition number M42??/90 or painter’s mark. I’m sorry not to be more definite, but I’m not knowledgeable on the subject – this is just an item I’m selling before emigrating. The date provided in the Ebay selection may be slightly out – I had to choose between pre or post 1900, but I understand that this pattern was the first produced under Moorcroft’s tenancy at Macintyre around 1897, and that it continued to be produced until 1904. The condition can be described as very fine, in that there are no repairs, restoration, cracks or touch-ups. The glaze is also in excellent condition. Please excuse the lighting in the photographs, If requested I will happily provide any further detail images. Selling with a low starting price, and NO RESERVE, this vase will make a superb addition to any collection, or indeed a delightful ornament of its own merit.
