An incredible 19th century tableau showing an 18th century costumed couple embracing while their little dog is on his hind legs begging for the same attention. This is a very large display being 27 inches long and10 inches tall affixed to it's original oval platform with a very nice burl veneer. The paintwork is a subdued soft natural coloring with no gloss and very meticoulus realistic hand work. The ground is just as fine with grass and details, the basket the lady has is full of Crocus and each one carefully done and best of all t is no damage after all these years and most likely because it has been in a prominent estate until now. T is a stamp like tag on the bottom in European numerals. Tremendous work and was a dramatic and expensive show piece in it's day as well as now. Offered for 10 days at auction
