THE LEASH 1925-2000 book E. William Smethurst hc first AKC alternative club

HARDCOVER FIRST EDITION STATED

Lyme: Greenwich Publishing Co., 2001. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Tan cloth. 4to. Mounted cover photo. 143pp. Illustrated. A history of this New York City club founded in 1925 by dog-lovers as an alternative to the American Kennel Club. The purpose of the club was "to forward and support all which makes for the highest interests, standards and conduct of the sport of breeding, working, racing and showing dogs". The book contains a detailed history of the club, a list of past and present officers and governors, a complete membership list, a list of trophies won by Leash dog-owners, etc. There is a 31 page section of color photographs of the club, its members and various events.

There is a card slipped in signed by the President, Nathaniel B. Day which appears to have been signed with live ink but I am not 100% sure of this. I can tell you that the club is only allowed to have 115 members at any one time, so how many cards would he have had to sign? I would have to see another copy to be sure but no one else has a copy with the card.

THE BOOK HAS LIGHT EXTERIOR RUBBING ON THE EDGES WITH NO OTHER CONDITION ISSUES
