Letter to War Department from Lieutenant W. I. Reed - 7th Infantry 1878 Letter States: 136 McCallister St. San Francisco, Cal April 9th 1878 Qr Master General U.S. Army Washington, D.C. Sir:- Replying to your letter of January 28 1878 relative to a financial charge for failing to account for 36 lbs of oats + 56 lbs of hay from ----- of W.K. Roberts ---. --. ---- 1876 --. (Bk of charges Vol2, fig 123 "-" Bp. 94) You are respectfully informed that the property has been accounted for on my return for the 2nd Qr 1877, this day transmitted to your office. Very Respectfully your obt sevt. (signed) W. I. Reed The back side of te document is an acknowledgment by the War Department that charges in this matter are withdrawn. It states: First Endorsement (some writing over) War Department Qr. Mr. Genl's ofice April 20th 1878 Respectfully referred to the Third Auditor of the Treasury withdrawing charge raised by this office against Lieut. W. I. Reed, 7th Inf. on --- 3 "A" of Capt Rich'd Comba's Money Account for May 1877. The property has been accounted for as stated within. By order of the Qr. Mr. General (signed) J.D. Bingham Deputy Qr.
