LIMOGES Jean Pouyat (J.P.L.) COBALT BLUE PLATTER

VERY DISTINGUISHING & HEAVILY GOLD GILDING

This is an impressive serving platter which is an excellent example of the Victoria Era usage for their elaborate dining and formal dinner parties. You will most certainly enjoy displaying this in your collection.

The oval cobalt blue platter or serving tray is 12 inches by 9 3/4 inches with a 2 inch band of cobalt blue with gold fleur-de-lies continuing to the creamy white middle with more gold fleur-de-lies. It has the J.P.L. (Pouyat, Jean) factory mark 5 in green under glaze (circa 1891-1932) and the mark 9 in green & pink over glaze decorating mark (1914-1932). Another example of this platter or serving tray is in Debby DuBay's 2007 book titled Antique Trader Limoges on page 90 which shows a similar platter or tray for $450. You could obtain quite a bargain at this auction.

This platter or serving tray is excitedly elegant with the gold gilding against the cobalt blue glaze background. It is in exceptional condition however, some of the gold gilding is missing due to the loving use of this tray but considering its age it still is quite outstanding.
