Lionel 773-100 High-Stack Gold Seal Hudson Motor NOS Item Description: Above you will find a three-view stock picture of another rare motor, a 773-100X High-Stack Super Gold Seal Hudson motor for the 773. Over the last 50 or so years, the pundits have speculated over the development of this special motor. Some theorize that Madison Hardware had it designed, while other theorize that it was designed for a version of the Hudson never to be built. Unfortunately none of these pundits have bothered to read any of the publications that Lionel provided to its service stations, let alone ask Lionel before it disappeared to Michigan. The High-Stack motor was developed because Lionel recognized that the 773 lacked the power that it needed to pull more than just a handful of cars. As a matter of fact, Lionel noted in 1950-51 that the 773 normally required 12-20 volts with a normal load of five freight cars or three Madison cars. Along with this, Lionel also noted that climbing a trestle was at best difficult, and with a string of freight cars nearly impossible. Added to the high-stack motor was a new cover plate for the gear box that had extra magnets to improve the Magne-Traction!
