long & nice D R Barton wood gouge 1-11/16" wide for timber framing or ???

You are bidding on one long D R Barton wood gouge as pictured.

It is marked "D R BARTON 1832" in the semi-circle inside the blade.

Width of the blade measured straight across tip to tip is about 1-11/16". Length of the steel portion, from the sharp edge to the far end of the socket, is about 13", and overall length including the handle is about 17-3/4".

Including the handle, it weighs a bit over 1 pound 3 ounces on my postal scale. I am not sure what wood the handle is made of, not boxwood but perhaps a fruit wood judging from the color.

Condition of the blade is very good, with some patina (color) but just a tiny bit of faint pitting, and some scratches from a prior cleaning. Putting a straightedge on the back yields a gentle S shape, with no gap more than about a 32nd.

Condition of the handle is very good other than some black stains.

SHIPPING: 2 pounds when boxed, insurance is included. No International shipping. (but see below if you are in Canada).
