Here is a complete 1856 printing of An Atlas of Classical Geography "Constructed by William Hughes, and Edited By George Long with A Sketch of Classical Georgraphy Containing Fifty-Two Maps and Plans on Twenty-Six Plates With an Index of Places Philadelphia: Blanchard & Lea. 1856." There are actually twenty two double page plates, four of which contain two single page maps (hence the total of 26.) The map pages are bound in a way that permits easy separation for framing of individual plates, all of which are blank on the reverse. Many of the maps are described in a section at the beginning of the book. The forty page index in the rear lists thousands of locations on the maps, including their page number and longitude/latitude. The covers are very worn, with the front cover detached and any blank pages before the title page missing. The title page is detached and well worn, but present. Maps have been well used but are in good condition overall with moderate staining and wear. About half the map pages contain notes, mostly in pencil but some in pen, that appear to have been entered by a student marking significant places and events on the maps. The writing does not detract much from the maps, and in my mind even makes them more interesting. The pencilled notes are fairly light and could be gently erased, I think, but I
