Offered for sale from my private collection of antique southern African weapons is this lovely old knobkerrie, carved from a single pice of beautiful two-tone wood, and with an unusual tear-shaped head. The Kerrie measures approx 20.5 inches in length and the head is around 4 inches long and 9 inches in circumference. The knobkerrie is definitely not of Zulu origin, and may be Shona (?). The wood is just beautiful, it glows a deep rich lemon-yellow to walnut colour depending on the light and the grain of the wood. The darker areas of wood are near jet-black. It is a top quality piece, and may well have been a status/ceremonial item as well as a weapon. It is clearly very old, probably 19th century, given the hairline cracks which usually appear on an item of great age. This lovely old south African weapon looks great mounted on a wall and would add interest to any collection of militaria or African artefacts. Estimated value $350 - $650 Offered for sale with a $1 opening bid and NO RESERVE! The group photograph below shows other items currently for sale on ebay. IAN WILKINSON COLLECTION: Ian has established one of the leading collections of Zulu artefacts in the UK, the collection concentrating mainly on old Zulu weaponry. Ian has a keen interest in the history of the 1879 Anglo Zulu War, and is a frequent visitor to the battlefields
