Lowell Smith Aviation Pioneer 1924 Flight Around Word 1st Air Fueling Autograph

Lowell Herbert Smith [1892 1945] was a aviation pioneer and Colonel in the United States Army Air Service who piloted the first airplane to receive a complete mid-air refueling on June 27, 1923. Colonel Smith was also a crew member of the Douglas World Cruiser Chicago on the historic first circumnavigation in 1924, and was also the holder of 16 military aircraft records for speed, endurance and distance and was also twice awarded the Mackay Trophy. Listed for auction is the autograph of Lovell Herbert Smith signed on a commemorative cover. The cover commemorates the 1930 Army Air Corps Maneuvers and the autograph is signed ''Lowell H. Smith'' in black fountain pen. The cover is postmarked Sacramento, Cal, April 12, 1930, and is affixed with one U.S Air Mail stamp. The cover measures 6.50 x 3.50 inches and is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic, uncommon, Smith died in a accident in 1945 and will be a nice addition to any aviation collection.
