M.S. Smith and Co. Swiss 18K yellow gold hunting case 6 size pocketwatch, circa 1870. Original porcelain dial with running seconds at 6. 15 jewel key wind, key set movement. The beautifully engraved hinged case has a shield in the center with a swirl, leaf and floral motif. The back has a larger flower in the center surrounded by the same swirl and leaf pattern. The inside case is stamped-State Stamp of Neuchatel For Carat 18 Gold. The dust cover reads, No. 32652 M.S. Smith & Co. Detroit Michigan. M.S. Smith and Co. had been in business four years before Eber B. Ward had purchased the company which was a large jewelry and silversmith firm. There were approximately 100 of these pocketwatches produced. This watch functions and is in very good condition.
