Magic City Chicago World Fair 1893 Columbian Exposition

VARIOUS PHOTOGRAPHERS. The Magic City: A Portfolio of Original Photographic Views of the Great World's Fair and Its Treasures of Art, Including a Graphic Representation of the Midway Plaisance, nine large oblong folios, Smith and Graham Historical Publishing Co., illustrated wraps, duotone photos. These folios were weekly periodicals issued in the Historical Fine Art Series. 16 pages each. They were issued in 1894, a year after the fair was in full swing. All are in good to very good antiquarian condition, except for Vol. 1, No. 5, whose wraps are splitting at the spine, and Vol. 1, No. 17, whose wraps are entirely loose and chipping. The others show light soiling and wear on the covers, with all other leaves clean and tight.

Books included are all part of Volume 1: Nos. 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 17. I can discern no organizing principle for the photographs presented here. The publishers seemed to just put out a bunch of World Fair photos every week. The quality is bright and clear.
