MALING Art Deco Lustre BLOSSOM TIME Pitcher Jug Vase

Maling pottery was produced from 1762-1963 and manufactured in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. This auction is for a beautiful pitcher or vase with both sides decorated in Maling's classic 1930's art deco design called Blossom Time created by noted Maling designer Norman Carling. Carling was a skilled modeller who introduced a three dimensional aspect to Maling's patterns. The flowers, centers, stems, and leaves are done in relief and the tactile effect is evident in the delicate ridges which also enhance the lustre.
While this vessel resembles a pitcher or water jug, it has been used as a floral vase. It measures approximately 7.5" high and 7" across the widest points. It has a very early Maling mark.
Maling is highly prized for their 1930's art deco lustre ware and this vase is a beautiful example of the iridescent sheen. The seemingly cream background has a pink tinged iridescent lustre which is accentuated by the narrow ridges.
This stunning 30's art deco lustre ware pitcher is in very good vintage condition. The blossoms' rich coloring are vibrant and intact. T is crazing on the underside of the vase which is an indicator of this piece's extreme age. T is also a production flaw on the underside. The interior is only partially iridescent
