Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus was the Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 A.D. He was adopted by Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius and took the names of Marcus Aelius Verus. In 139 A.D. he was giving the title of Caesar and he married Faustina the Younger, daughter of Antoninus and Roman Empress Faustina the Elder . Aurelius became emperor in 161 A. D. and he immediately admitted Lucius Verus as his partner in the administration, and betrothed him to his daughter Lucilla. He was considered the last of the "Five Good Emperors". Aurelius is best remembered for his devotion to Stoic philosophy and his work "Meditations".
