This charming set of condiment or jam pots are sure to brighten any French country kitchen. T are four (4) pots. Graduated in size and each was finely hand decorated. Probably used for serving a variety of jam but could hold herbs, condiments or any other sparingly used foods. Pots are tin glazed faience. Yellow ochre and black on white are the predominant colors. Small country views were beautifully hand painted in black, blue, pink and green on both sides of each pot. Views show men and women fishing or walking along a tree bordered river with buildings in the background. Pot lids were topped with fruit form finials and leaves. Floral and leaf decorations border the lid edges and sides of each pot. The bottoms are marked with a VP; this mark is associated with faience produced in Marseilles. These pots were probably made sometime around 1950. In order of size from largest to smallest, pots measure 2 3/8 in. across x 3 3/4 in.; 2 1/4 in. across x 2 7/8 in.; 1 7/8 in. x 2 1/2 in.; 1 5/8 in. x 1 1/2 in. Bit dusty.
