Extremely rare enamel and sterling charger plate by Mary Catherine Knight (1875-1956) of The Boston Handicrafts Shop. Knights calling card is her use of creating designs with leather punches and highlighting the design with enamel. The decoration around the edge features a grape and vine design in periwinkle blue and ivory/palest green enamel enhanced with deep engraving and chasing. Back is marked sterling, the Handicraft Shop hallmark and 1905. Museum quality example of arts and crafts design in American silver. Measures 7 ¼" in diameter. EXCELLENT condition with only a few dots of missing enamel. No monogram. I rarely come across pieces by this sought after Arts & Crafts artist. Started low with no reserve in inspire bidding. A similar small bowl by Knight with grapevine design sold at Sotheby's on June 10 1999 for $4,025. It measured 4 ½". Please see Sotheby's sale NY7327 Lot 152.
