Millefiori Art Glass Cup & Saucer fr Baccarat France

Millefiori Art Glass

For your bidding pleasure is a stunning example of French art glass, purchased from the estate of an elderly woman who traveled extensively to Europe in the early to mid 1900's. This piece is hand-wrought from vivid yellow and red millefiori canes and rims are finished with applied black glass. Pontil marks evident on both cup and saucer. Handwritten note accompanying cup states that it was purchased in Baccarat, France and that it is marked on underside. I am unable to find any maker's marks after a thorough examination. It is possible that the piece was made by Baccarat (the company); it may also have been made by another glassmaker from Baccarat (the city). Regardless of its origin, this is an absolutely stunning piece of early-to-mid-century French art glass, and would prove to be a showcase item for the discriminating collector. Reverse side of note states that item was purchased for either $50 or 50 Francs; either was a considerable sum back then. Item is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. No chips or cracks. Possible wear w cup rests on saucer, but marks could be t from item's creation. Ash or other debris from making is evident on underside of plate and saucer. Saucer measures approx 6 inches (15.5 cm) in diameter. Cup is approx 2-1/4 inches (5.8 cm) high and is 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter excluding handle.
