This is a super Stanley Bailey No 3 Wood Smooth Plane! It is the last of my extensive collection of Stanley No. 3 Planes except for the Type 6 I am keeping. It is 8 inches long, with a 1 3/4 inch wide cutter. This plane is in mint condition! It has 100%+ black jappaning as shown in the pictures which is hard to find. The rosewood tote handle and rosewood front knob are in wonderful new condition with all of the original finish and just a couple small toolbox dents that don't show in the pictures. The metal plane sides and bottom are mint perfect shiny metal finish! The bottom appears to have been lightly used once and then put away and it is still mirror smooth. The cutter and chip breaker are the nicest I've ever owned! This plane was my "mint" example of Stanley No. 3 planes, which I finally decided to part with thanks to encouragement from my wife (you know what I mean if you collect tools). It has "No. 3" and "Bailey" cast in front and "Made in USA" cast behind th frog. The Stanley logo on the cutter is the Type BB introduced in 1936. The lateral adjusting lever has "Stanley" read vertically. All the above make this the very sought after Type 19 Plane for serious wood working use made from 1948 - 1961.
