2 MORGAN SILVER $1 Set First and Last Years- 1878-S & 1921-D Description: 2 MORGAN SILVER $1 Set First and Last Years- 1878-S & 1921-D in Very Good Condition. The Golden State's First Silver Dollar Struck from the vast reserves of the Comstock Lode, the Morgan Silver Dollar has gone down in history as the most popular U.S. silver coin series of all time. Struck from 1878 to 1904 and again for one last time in 1921, the best-looking coins in the entire series are universally recognized to have originated from the San Francisco Mint. That makes the first-year-of-issue 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollars some of the most popular Morgans in the entire series. It's a real piece of Old West history! What's also unique is that the Morgan Silver Dollar was also the first silver dollar struck by the San Francisco Mint for circulation in the United States. Established during the great California Gold Rush, the San Francisco Mint didn't strike a circulating silver dollar until Congress approved the famous Morgan Dollar in 1878. 1921 is a watershed year in U.S. coinage history because it was the only year Morgan Silver Dollars were struck at the Denver Mint.
