This auction is for a Very Old, Very Rare and Very Beautiful Ironstone Transferware Platter made by Francis Morley and Co. of England between 1845 and 1858. The Platter is in the company's Cleopatra pattern, which depicts a garden scene with an urn and a stone temple structure and an obelisk and a pyramid in the background. It has a floral and Victorian scroll border. The transferware image might be considered either red or pink, depending on your eyes. It has lovely spots of hand coloring in blue, yellow and green. The platter is eight-sided and very hard to find. It is a Great Display piece and would be an ideal holiday gift for a collector. It is in very good condition, especially for its age. There are no chips or cracks or discoloration or repairs and the images are vivid and the colors are crisp. There is crazing as is expected from ironstone of this era. There is a small indentation in the top the platter (see last photo) that is not noticeable from a front view. It doesn't detract from the overall beauty and appeal of this piece. It measures about 13 inches long and 10 1/4 inches wide. The backstamp is an image of an obelisk with wings at its feet and a stone temple and pyramid with the word Cleopatra in a cartouche. It also has an impressed letter "A". I only ship within the contiguous US and only accept PayPal.
