This is a remarkable piece of military history. I have always considered the Conway uniforms to be among the best in my personal collection. MSG Conway (later 1SG Conway) had three Combat Infantry Badges and a total of five year in combat. I will offer two of his pre Vietnam uniforms. MSG Conway was a farm boy from South Dakota who deployed with the 34th Inf Div which was the first Division to hit the European Theater in WWII. At the end of the war, he stayed with the occupation forces and in his words "fell in love with the country and a young German girl" He was later reassigned to the 24th Inf Div in Japan. He was deployed with the 24th Inf to Korea. At the end of the Korean Conflict he requested to go back to German and was assigned to the 5th Inf Div. In 1968 deployed to Vietnam with the 5th Infantry for one tour before he retired. The uniforms offered today are from his assignment in the 5th Infantry just before his deployment to Vietnam. The Greens are the AG 44 dated 1958 with cut edge chevrons and cut edge 5th Inf Patch. It has three overseas bars from WWII and two from Korea. The 34th Inf Div Combat patch was stolen off the uniform while it was out on loan and I have not found another cut edge patch to replace it.
