American Civil War mourning cover with stamp 65. Please zoom in on the stamp it has a short perf bottom left side but is tide with a nice NATCHEZ MISSISSIPPI cancel for 1865. No content. Simply addressed to the Commanding Office 28th ILL [Illinois] Vols [Volunteers] MOBILE POINT ALABAMA. From what I can find out the commanding officer was BRIGADIER GENERAL MICHAEL KELLY LAWLER who had served in the Mexican War. The cover would have once contained a death notice of a relative of an officer, ALBERT J MOSES of the 28th as this cover was in with a group of others addressed to him.
