LATE WAR COMBAT MESSKIT AND THE LEATHER SUPPORT STRAP. This is maker coded to HRE and dated 44, the lower part is not marked at all, based on the shade of paint and wear it matches the top perfectly. It seems to be relative common on the later war messkits that the lower parts are not marked. As seen in the photos it retains about 85% of the original light olive paint, the most wear being on the top. The top shows discoloration in the paint and paint loss from using it to heat food, probably over a wartime Esbit stove. The former owner has scratched his initials on back of the bottom part giving it a personal touch. The leather strap is unmarked it fits perfectly around the Messkit. This is not as some sellers put on their Messkit the more common Blanket straps with the short strap that is used to secure it to a rucksack etc. Overall I would rate this to be in good to very good condition that will go nice with the later war combat canteen and breadbag I have listed. Both pieces together will improve your later war uniform display. If you have any question please let me know. I'll give the winning bidder a 14-day inspection on this.
