An excellent and scarce rare set of World War US army binoculars and case as issued to officers and commanders. Medium size binoculars are five inches in height. The binoculars are finished in the original glossy black with the distinctive "crinkle finish" to the sides. Right top of ocular is stamped U.S. Army above the serial number (15274) over the initials R.L.B. Also the right ocular is stamped with the maker's information - Bausch & Lomb - Opt. Co. - Rochester, NY, USA. Bausch & Lomb is one of the premiere optical manufacturing firms in USA if not the world. The left ocular top is stamped 6X30 and M8 - I suppose this is for Model 8. The eye cups are each marked 4 - 2 - + 0 - 2 - 4 and screw freely up and down to adjust the optics. The middle pivot screw area is stamped with measuring lines and 60 - 70. Bottom of pivot screw joint is stamped Des. Pat. 86934 and Ser. 1172777. The overall paint is excellent, I would rate at 90% (conservatively). All of the original screws are present. T are a few scattered very small chips of paint missing and some small very light areas of wear to the sides. T are no heavy scratches or stains. The optics are excellent and crystal clear. The right ocular has an internal sighting reticle (right angle with measuring marks). Not a bit of fogging to these lenses. These things are really powerful!! read more
