Nippon China - White Crane OVAL VEGETABLE BOWL Antique Nippon porcelain china was produced from the 1890's through the early 1920's, with a mark that denoted the country of origin instead of a specific manufacturer. Nippon is the anglicized word for Japan or "land of the rising sun". After the early 1920's the United States mandated that Japanese imports no longer be marked with Nippon, but instead "Japan" or "Made in Japan", which marked the end of the Nippon era. Genuine Nippon porcelain was mainly hand-painted by skilled Japanese artists, and many antique pieces were trimmed in 24k gold. However, the process used in those days did not bind the gold well to the porcelain, so wear on the gold trim is common in Nippon antique porcelain. This NIPPON porcelain china OVAL VEGETABLE BOWL was crafted in the WHITE CRANE pattern, andis a DISCONTINUED item (circa 1890-1921 ). The BOWL has a light-BLUE sky set behind hand-painted WHITE CRANES, with 24k GOLD trim on the rim. The CRANES are intricately detailed and outlined with 24k GOLD, and have hints of GREEN on the bills and faint YELLOW eyes. The light-blue sky and white crane coloring is remarkably clear and unblemished for 100 year old antique NIPPON china. Minor wear appears on some of the GOLD trim, which is normal for vintage china of this age, but overall it is in VERY GOOD condition.
