Northwood Cherry and Cable cookie jar biscuit barel rpattern glass EAPG ca 1905

Offered is this lovely signed Northwood pattern glass biscuit or cookie jar with lid in a pleasing paneled pattern called Cherry and Cable. This pattern also is known as Paneled Cherry and Cherry Thumbprints. The jar is marked on the inside of the bottom with an N inside a circle.

This Early American Pattern Glass piece was produced in Wheeling, West Virginia, about 1905 or a little later. A large number of pieces for a full table service were made in this pattern, which features a gilded cable that encircles the jar. On the front and back of the biscuit barrel, two clusters of three cherries are embossed, suspended from the cable by gilded leaves.

The cherries have been stained dark pink.

Gold trim also was used on the rim of the jar and the finial of the lid, although some has worn off. The outside rim of the finial also was stained dark pink, although it too shows wear.

The cookie jar stands about 7.5 inches to the top of the finial (19 cm). It measures 8.25 inches from handle to handle (21 cm).

Very good used condition. Noticeable wear to gold trim around rims. Some loss of staining, mainly on the finial.
