Antique German lidded beer stein celebrating the hard working miner. The beautiful vessal has a miner's crest on top. The center relief shows happy, uniformed and remarkabley clean (only in Germany!) miners working the coal mines. To the left is a dwarf before a raging forge, on the right a dwarf by a rushing waterfall. These could be references to the Neibelung dwarves of the Rhinegold legend. (Alberech forswore love so he could steal the gold from the river and take it underground to forge the ring of power and magic tarnhelm). Fire and flood are also major risks to miners' lives. Gluck Auf! is an idomatic expression that roughly means "drink up to good fortune." This stein is beautifully molded and colorfully painted. Ivy leaves and German renaissance designs surround the pictures. The fittings are pewter. 4" diameter base, 8" tall, half litre capacity. Very Good condition. No chips, cracks, repairs or damage. Impressed "Germany" on bottom with number 1273. Please see our
