Thegrandfather clock is 71 inches tall, 15 inches wide and 9 inchesdeep. It is solid mahogany with a metal face and brass gilding. On the face it says "tempus fugit". As seen on the picture 4, inside the case, t is tag writting: "Colonial Mfg. Co Zeeland Michigan. Model 1688W Movement 132 Dial CI". I have been told it is from the early part of the twentieth century and see no reason to think otherwise. I have no idea who the manufacturer is, but the clearly knew what they were doing . It keeps perfect time. The clock is in perfect condition, in terms of both it's woodwork and it's original mechanical movement. The three chains are pulled down to lift their respective weights, which allow for eight days of functioning for the hands, the hourly gongs and the quarter hour chimes. The chime hammers have been adjusted downwards to produce about half of the available maximum volume, which I have found appropriate for apartment living. They can be easily adjusted to the maximum, which would be more appropriate for a larger house. I do not know what kind of chimes it has i.e. westminster etc, but the tones are extremly beautiful and rich in nature, being the most soothing I have ever heard on any clock.
