NAMED INDIAN ORDER OF MERIT MILITARY DIVISION 2ND TYPE (1912-39) 3rd CLASSThe star measures about 1 & 7/16 inch [40 mm.] in diameter. Insignia made of silvered [?] metal & hard enamel. Metal overall displays considerable toning with no apparent enamel flaws. Ribbon appears to be silk. Overall condition as images indicate. This award suspension does not conform with most examples; this award may be a copy.Obverse and reverse rather worn. Reverse partly obliterated inscription reads:Order of Merit Shbadar Mohammed Ali 102nd K E O Grenadiers [illegible] on 12th February 1917World War I began with 102nd Grenadiers being stationed at Muscat, Oman; later served in the Mesopotamia Campaign with the 14th Indian Division, taking part in the Second Battle of Kut and the Fall of Baghdad. A second battalion, raised in 1917, served in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign. In 1914 the regiment comprised 2 companies of Western Rajputana Jats, 2 of Bagri Jats and Jats from Eastern Rajputana, 2 of Rajputana Gujars and 2 of Punjabi Muslims.
