A Rare Opportunity on eBay! 1887 Griffith M. Hopkins MapWashington, DC A Complete Set of Surveys and Plats of the Properties in the City of Washington , District of Columbia Produced in Philadelphia , 1887 I'm selling my duplicate copies of individual and ORIGINAL Hopkins Map pages from their esteemed 1887 color map of Washington, DC. I'll be listing 33 Map pages in all, sold by the page (see below for other page numbers). These are the original, hand colored maps that were the first finely detailed maps produced of the city. I've not seen these on any digitized CD's, and I've also never seen them before on eBay! They show many, many buildings long gone, many lot owners names from 1887, building addresses, lot sizes and back buildings (carriage houses, fuel sheds, etc), and even many wood frame houses on lots now occupied by Victorian townhouses. You've no doubt used the tiny, black and white, microfilmed versions with their many flaws, scratch lines, and small print outs, but now you can own the original! These always bring lots of attention when and wver I lecture in Washington on house history, and would be especially nice framed on your wall if your house falls on one of the many delineated city squares and blocks. I bought two incomplete sets at great expense from a Historical Society of Washington sale about ten years ago, and only recently combined them for a complete set for myself. The 33 pages I'll be listing in auctions over the next two weeks could give you a nearly complete set yourself; only about ten would be missing! SIZE: Each of the map pages is double sized, folded in the middle and all measures an impressive 2 feet, seven and-one-half inches wide by 1 foot, ten-and-a-half inches tall . Condition of all is good; paper is not brittle, but conditions vary on each page (described below).************************************************* This Auction: Page (Map) No. 12 Map 12 Bordered By: 9th, 15th, F and K Streets, NW Particular Map 12 Inclusions of Note (1887): K Street, south side with rows of houses now long gone, Columbian University buildings on 15th, Riggs House hotel, St. Matthews, Franklin Square, NY Ave Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church, Franklin Public School, St. Pauls Church, St. Vincent's Orphan Asylum, St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum, St. Patricks, Webster Public School, First Congregational Church. Lots and lots of owners names appear on dwellings and lots. Map also has lots of pencil notes, indicating w famous people owned or lived in the early 1880; John Tayloe, John Quincy Adams, David Carroll. Included Map 12 Streets (1887 names): 9,10,11,12,13,14,15th Streets, F,G,H,I, K Streets, Grant Place, New York Avenue and Franklin Square. Map 12 Particular Condition: Edges are in very good shape, with only a few very minor tears; no missing pieces! No water stains. T is a five inch long tear at the bottom, following the fold that lays flat when open. 1/2 inch hole in the middle of M Street and 13th Street, small tear on left side along Mass Ave, about an inch long.
