Welcome to my first print auctions of 2007! I would like to thank all of my customers of 2006, and wish everyone a pleasant and prosperous New Year. Please remember to check out the other prints I have for sale this week. The Print: You are looking at a genuine original Edo era Japanese woodblock print diptych, by the the famous Utagawa Toyokuni III (also Kunisada, 1786-1865). The print features a scruffy samurai, holding a ratty umbrella, leading some poor character by a leash. Two shadowy figures stand in the night background. This print was made in the 1850's - late Edo period. Toyokuni's signature is found on both prints, along with the censure seals. This is a very unique and interesting woodblock diptych by the famous Toyokuni, and would make a very nice display piece or addition to a collection. Thank you for looking and happy bidding! Condition details are below . Details: These prints are Oban sized, measuring about 9.25 " by 14 " ( 23.5 x 35.5cm )x2. The prints are not backed and are not attached. The margins have been trimmed. No holes, wormmage or tears to report. No creasing either. Colors are very strong for an edo era print, with a lacquered look in the blacks. Impression is also good, showing nice detail. T is one instance of paper thinning, and some surface soiling of the prints (see photos) Overall good condition.
