Over the next few days I will be individually listing approx. 100 pieces of vintage ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATION ART. These pieces were all down by Louis Fischer, a listed artist from New York, who did extensive work in murals for homes and municipal buildings, magazine advertising, wood carvings and paintings. Although Fischer does show up in artist databases, there is not a lot known about his work. These pieces being listed are mostly from the 30's/40's and were acquired directly from a decedent of Fischer. All pieces are ORIGINAL ART (no ads or reprints). I have 2 paintings by Fischer currently listed and I have had the privilege of selling some of his carved work previously as well. The one reference I found online about Fischer's work is from a New York Times October 27, 1991 article entitled "ART; A 'Mountain-Climbing' Canal". This was an article regarding an exhibit of art and memorabilia from the Morris Canal which was located in Boonton, Clifton and Wharton, NJ. In the article it states, "The show's piece de resistance is the 15-foot-long mural of one craft drawn by mules and another in the cradle. Painted for the Wharton Town hall by Louis Valdemar Fischer, the picture recently reproduced in the Star-Ledge, much to the surprise of the 87 year-old artist, who hadn't laid eyes on it since completing it in 1938."
