You are viewing a Vintage Roosevelt's Rough Riders Reunion Medallion....made by the C. G. Braxman Co of 10 Maiden Lane, NY...ca: 1900-1910. The Roosevelt's Rough Riders were actually the 1st United States Volunteer Calvalry, formed in 1898 for the purpose of fighting in the Spanish-American War...since the US Calvalry was seriously depleted from aftermath of the Civil War. Teddy Roosevelt was originally second in command but took over after Col. Wood went to command another calvarly unit...And Teddy was the commander in Cuba during battle. They became quickly known as Rough Riders. The medallion is a great piece of Roosevelt and Rough Rider History! The piece measures about 1.75" x 1.75" and is a nice heavy feeling cast piece. The Braxman Company manufactured Fireman and Police Badges and other fraternal organizations, around the turn of the century. A very cool coin type Medallion, it features a rough rider on his horse in the center, surrounded by a large letter "R", at the compass points, north, south, east and west. There is not much information on how often the reunions were held, but must have been fairly often in the early years after the Spanish-American War, as these were a close-knit group of men.
