First ever Saints regular season game, played September 17, 1967 at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans. There is a round indentation on the front cover where the doubloon is placed inside the program, otherwise excellent condition. Also included is a ground-lever photograph of the opening kickoff in which Saints John Gilliam returns for a touchdown. Program and photograph will be mailed in a box not an envelope. A brief recap of the game follows - September 17, 1967 - Los Angeles ruins Saints' NFL debut, 27-13 - Professional football arrived in New Orleans in spectacular fashion as Saints rookie John Gilliam ran the opening kickoff back 94 yards for a touchdown before 80,879 wildly enthusiastic fans at Tulane Stadium. The quick TD and extra point provided a 7-0 lead over the favored Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunately for the Saints, there were still more than 59 minutes to play. After a couple of Rams field goals and a Charlie Durkee 44-yard field goal for the Saints, the visitors from California took the lead, 13-10, when quarterback Roman Gabriel scored from two yards out with one second remaining in the half. Two long passes from Gabriel to flanker Bernie Casey set up the score. The Saints battled back in the third quarter on another Durkee field goal to knot the score, 13-13.
