Pacific Coast Models 1/32 Fiat G.55 Serie 1 Centauro

The Fiat G.55 was the last of the "5" series aircraft consisting of the Fiat, the Macchi C.205 and the Reggiane Re.2005. All of these fighters were equipped with the Daimler-Benz DB.605A-1 engine; either the German produced engine or the Alfa-Romeo license built version. The G.55 was the best high altitude Italian fighter of WWII with a top speed of 385mph at an altitude of 23,000 feet. All three of these fighters were the most modern produced by Italy during the war, but in quantities too small to make a difference in the air war. After the war, production of the G.55 was resumed with 85 units being built.
The early version came with one 20mm cannon and four 12.7mm machine guns. The Serie 1 came with three 20mm cannon and two 12.7mm machine guns. Both were used primarily as bomber interceptors over northern Italy in 1943-45. There was no aircraft in the war that could stand up to its firepower. It was a beautifully designed and elegant aircraft attracting attention from all who saw it.
