Pair of glazed celadon vases with carving under glaze. Drilled as lamps. Chinese. Ming Dynasty (1368-1644/ A.D). Lamps are approx 26 inches high with vases approximately 11.5 inches in height. Very nice for about 400 years old. Authenitcated by West End Antiques of Wilmette, IL. Provenance- The vase comes to the market from a Lake Shore Drive estate. Earl Allison Evans Jr. was a biochemistry professor at the University of Chicago. He was a part of the historic team that created the first man-made sustained nuclear reaction under the stands at Stagg Field on December 2, 1942. He was a protege of Hans Krebs. Evans was attache at the US Embassy in London after WWII. He left it to his adopted son and was part of his estate. Shows signs of usage but still very nice.
