Pair of "Hirth Hobbies" Remote Control "Century" Non-Derailing "O" Ga SwitchesDescriptionHere's a pair of remote control non-derailing "O" gauge switches that were manufactured by "Hirth Hobbies" of Chicago IL. I had never heard of "Hirth Hobbies" until I "gambled" on 9 of these at a recent auction. Both switches are in their original boxes with cardboard liners and instruction sheets, but there are NO CONTROLLERS with them. Since they don't light, I studied the instruction sheets ( all the sheets show a right-hand switch ) and connected a Lionel # 222 prewar switch controller to each to test them. Both switches operate, but they are a little sluggish and don't fully "throw".....they need to be cleaned and serviced after many years of storage. Both show some light playwear, but I see nothing broken and little surface rust to speak of. Each is 15" long and almost resemble Lionel O-72 switches, and the instruction sheets indicate they are adaptable to Lionel and Marx "O" and "O-27 tubular track, as well as Gargraves. I am not sure of the age of these.....the addresses on the sheets do not have a zip code, so they date prior to the mid-1960's and I would guess they date to the 1950's. The bases appear to me to be made of black bakelite. I must also mention that I did NOT test the non-derailing feature, but each has an insulating pin
