Pair of raised embroidered linen Antique Victorian pillowcases

Here we have a beautiful heavy quality pair of hand made white linen pillowcases

with raised embroidered decoration which looks like a

monogram of the letter D and lace around the edge.

Both close over with three little hand made buttons

and have a red letter D by the button closure.

They each measure 33 x 22 inches including the lace.

There is no damage or obvious marks and

they have been freshly laundered, starched and ironed ready to use.

I have been asked whether these pillowcases are linen or cotton, sorry I am no expert on old materials but the defenition of linen in the dictionary is as follows:

Defenition of linen (l nn)

a. Thread made from fibers of the flax plant. b. Cloth woven from this thread. c. Articles or garments made from linen or a similar cloth, such as cotton; bed sheets and tablecloths I have always refered to old tablecloths and bedding as linen items and have listed these pillowcases just as 'linen antique pillowcases', as in 'c' above and listed cotton in the 'material specifics' column, whether they are cotton or linen then sorry I do not know.
