Paul Sawyier SWITZER COVERED BRIDGE Print Ltd Ed COA "Switzer Covered Bridge" is a signed and numbered print of Paul Sawyier's watercolor. Print was released in 11/1975 as a limited edition of 3000. Signed Certificate of Authenticity. "Switzer Covered Bridge - This nostalgic glimpse of the Switzer Covered Bridge, the old mill dam with its spillway to the right, and the mill house, is one of the very finest examples of Sawyier's genius in aquarelle (transparent watercolor.) By keeping the paper wet while he applied the paints thinly, Sawyier obtained a subtlety in his green, yellow, grey, and blue hues that gives the work a soft, yet bright harmony of freshness. The Switzer Covered Bridge crosses the North Fork of Elkhorn Creek approximately ten miles northeast of Frankfort, Kentucky, and can still be seen today."Paul Sawyier (1865-1917) was known as the "River Artist" of Kentucky. In 1908, Sawyier bought a houseboat on the Kentucky River, which served as both his studio and as his home. Some of his finest watercolors were painted aboard the boat while docked at river cities such as Frankfort, Highbridge and Camp Nelson. Besides being works of art, Sawyier's paintings are also considered historical documentation of the Kentucky River at the turn of the century.
