English PrattDecorated Pearlware Miniature Cup Plate ~ Leafy Vine Staffordshire England c. 1800 This miniature children's plate or cup plate was originally part of an early child's miniature dinner service. The little plate measures 3 1/2” in diameter with a gently scalloped rim, hand decorated with high temperature Pratt enamel colors of olive green and ochre with cobalt blue outline polychrome hand painted decoration on creamy earthenware, painted with a leafy vine and a big flower inside the well. Finished with pearlware glaze. An beautiful example of late 18th or early 19th century folk art. The piece was made in Staffordshire or possibly Leeds or Yorkshire in England. Typically, it is unmarked except for a tally mark. One of the earliest wares intended for children to play with, used to instruct them in proper table manners or a playtime dinner party or simply to decorate a dollhouse table. The tiny plate is in only fair condition. It has a stable crack that travels half way across the width of the plate. No chips, cracks or repairs. Offered as is, a nice example until a more perfect one comes along. A wonderful early miniature, perfectly elegant in its simplicity in a stunning earthy pattern - a fine miniature to add to any AAFA Americana advanced collection!
