This is a Qum rug. Qum rugs get their name because they are made in Qum, Iran. Qums are well known for their detailed, hand woven beauty. It is pure silk, that is, silk hand tied knots on a silk base from the kork, or the belly of the sheep, the finest hair on the animal. As you can see from the pictures it is near a thousand knots per square inch and of the highest quality of Qum rugs you will find. The sticker that says "105 x 152" means it is 105 x 152 centimeters (3.4 feet x 5 feet). The name at the end of the rug written in tan on the blue border is the master weaver's name.
